Parish Music Director for St. George’s Anglican Church – Ajax, Ontario

Our Parish:

St. George’s is an Anglican Church, in the heart of Pickering Village in Ajax, Ontario. We are a growing, diverse community of faith, seeking to love God and serve our neighbours.  We are a warm community serving and praying with our neighbours and inviting people into a relationship with God’s love and joy, known in Jesus Christ.

The Position:

We seek a Parish Music Director to provide leadership for the music ministry at St. George’s Anglican Church, Ajax by enhancing the church’s liturgies through music, by leading the St. George’s Choir, and encouraging congregational singing and musical participation. The Director works in consultation with the Incumbent to execute and implement the musical elements of our Anglican worship and liturgy.

The successful candidate will be energetic, have a sense of humour, possess excellent leadership and communication skills, and have a broad range of musical talent and knowledge. Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills are required, along with an ability to collaborate equally well with all members of the congregation and ministry team.

Key Responsibilities:

  •          Plan and prepare choral and liturgical music for all services of Sunday worship, feast and fast days (Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas etc.) Occasional funerals and weddings.
  •          BCP Service at 9 a.m. on alternating Sundays in our Historic Church, with a 2-Manual Classic Electronic Organ
  •          BAS service every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in our Worship Centre, with a 3-Manual Classic Organ and/or Yamaha Grand Piano and leading the choir (service is livestreamed on Facebook)
  •          Lead Choir rehearsal most Wednesdays from Labour Day until the end of June

Qualifications:

  •          Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Music) or Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) diploma
  •          Track record of leadership on organ and piano
  •          Knowledge and understanding of the Anglican tradition of church music is an asset
  •          Ability to play proficiently various styles of music on the organ and piano
  •          Ability to lead ensembles through an open, honest and approachable style

Application Details:

  •          It is a part-time position, with rehearsal and on-site leadership an average of 10 hours a week.
  •          Compensation to be determined based on academic credentials, years of experience and weekly time investment in accordance with RCCO guidelines. Funerals and Weddings will be separately compensated.  Vacation time to be agreed upon, with black out periods during busy worship season.
