The Rachel Laurin Composition Competition was established by the Royal Canadian College of Organists to encourage the composition of organ music by young composers.


 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  •          The Competition is open to national and international composers 35 years old and under.
  •          Composers may submit up to 3 compositions but may only receive one prize.
  •          Each composition must be accompanied by a $10 entry fee.
  •          Entries must be received no later than 11:59 PM ET on December 29, 2024.
  •          No late entries will be accepted.

 
COMPOSITION REQUIREMENTS

  •          Submissions should be sent as .pdf files only with no identification of the composer.
  •          An original composition for solo organ between 3.5 and 5 minutes in length suitable for concert use. Besides evidence of creativity, practicality, and originality, compositions should display good editorial practice including clear articulation, stylistic markings, appropriate registration instructions, and clear tempo indications.
  •          Submissions may be handwritten but digitally typeset compositions are preferred.
  •          A recording of the composition in .mp3 format must accompany the entry. Live or computer-generated recordings are acceptable.

 
PRIZES

The panel of judges will include the acclaimed Canadian composer of organ music, Denis Bédard.

In addition to the cash prizes below, the three winning entries will receive public performances by recitalists at Organ Festival Canada in Kitchener - Waterloo - Guelph, Ontario, July 8-10, 2025.

1st Prize - $1,500 (donated by Juget-Sinclair Organbuilders, Montréal, QC)

2nd Prize - $1,000

3rd Prize - $500

The three winners will also be offered a publishing contract with the Royal Canadian College of Organists for inclusion in the online catalogue.
