Part-time Director of Music

St. James and St. Brendan Anglican Church is located in Port Colborne, Ontario in the beautiful Niagara Region. As an Anglican parish we are committed to excellence in liturgy in all of our services, following Anglican liturgies according to the Book of Alternative Services. 

St. James and St. Brendan is currently searching for a part-time Director of Music who will be responsible for the music ministry of the parish and will work in close collaboration with the Rector to lead our volunteer choir during Sunday services as well as other special services and occasional performances. More information about our parish is located on our website: portcolborneanglican.org. 


Responsibilities

          Building and maintaining a choral program to further parish worship and to advance the growth of the parish and further its mission

          Rehearsing, recruiting and conducting of our volunteer Parish Choir at 10:30 AM services on Sunday mornings, and additional services as requested by the Rector. 

        Assisting the Rector in selecting music for worship.

          Collaborating with the Rector to review planned activities, performances, and repertoire for the church’s various musical needs. 

          Accompanying the Choir on piano and/or organ during all services.

          Working respectfully at all times to ensure a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with Diocesan policies. 

          Tracking and arranging tuning and maintenance of the piano and organ

          Reporting use of copyrighted music, when required

        First right of refusal for weddings and funerals


Qualifications and Experience

          Familiarity and understanding of the Anglican liturgy and choral repertoire is preferred.

          Piano skills required for leading rehearsals and playing during services. The ability to play the organ is an asset. 

          Experience in recruiting and working with volunteer singers. 

          Ability to create a supportive environment, and inspire musicians to reach their full potential. 

          Ability to work as a team member. 

          Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. 

        Successful applicants will need to provide a current, clean Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.


Instruments and Choir

      Organ (John Bright, 1971) and Kawai GM-10 baby grand piano, both tuned and maintained regularly

      Small SATB volunteer choir, with possibilities for growth

Hours and Compensation

      Average of 10 hours a Week, schedule to be determined based on needs

      One weekly choral service at 10:30am on Sundays.  In July and August the choral service is at 9:30am on alternating weeks

      Weekly Thursday evening rehearsal September to mid-June

      Compensation commensurate with RCCO scale
