Director of Music Ministry, St Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church
Job Overview

As the music ministry is a significant part of the public worship of God, our Director will integrate spirituality and center Christ while overseeing, coordinating and administering all the musical activities in the church.
Musical Responsibilities
● Lead choir rehearsal one evening per week
● Recruit, audition and hire choir section leads
● Lead, educate and nurture the choir members
● Accompany soloists on piano or organ
● Play organ/piano for hymns, anthems, praise songs and solos
● Contract out instrumentalists for special services
● Encourage, support and accompany instrumentalists, singers and singing groups from within the congregation
● On occasion, oversee the musical involvement of children in special programs
● Provide music for weddings and funerals (compensated separately)
Administrative Responsibilities
● Select anthems and solos for services; collaborate with the Minister in the selection of hymns and praise songs
● Prepare for seasonal events (Christmas Eve, midweek Lenten services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, courtyard services etc.)
● Participate in meetings with staff, worship team and coordinating committees
● Maintain music library and report use of certain music
● Oversee maintenance of the organ and pianos
Skills & Experience Required
● Previous experience playing the organ and the piano
● Previous experience directing a choir
● Public speaking abilities, comfortable addressing both choir and congregation
● Proficient in educating choir members of varying skill levels.
● Coordination skills to liaise between staff, community members and hired musicians
