Music Director for Humbercrest United Church

Humbercrest United Church is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable musician to fill the role of Music Director (12 hours per week). Music is an integral part of Worship in our faith community. The wonderful acoustics in our beautiful sanctuary make a great setting for our 3-Manual Casavant organ and Steinway grand piano.

Humbercrest United Church is an affirming ministry. We are a small congregation in the west end of Toronto, seeking to be a Christian presence in our community and make a difference in the world.

Currently, we have eight dedicated Humbercrest members who sing in our chancel choir. Some regular, committed paid section leads round out our choir. We also have an outstanding library of sacred music.

The Minister leads the Worship Team and the Music Director is expected to work collaboratively with the Minister and the Worship Committee.

The services to be provided by the Music Director will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Playing the organ/piano and directing the choir at all regular Sunday morning services of the church and services on Good Friday and Christmas Eve, and supporting informal weekday
worship events with mutual agreement when they occur

• Selecting suitable choir music for the church services in consultation with the church’s Minister to enhance spirit filled worship

• Selecting and hiring section leads (2)

• Providing leadership for active congregational participation in worship through singing of hymns and responses - using a variety of selections from Voices United, More Voices and contemporary music of different genres from around the world

• Conducting weekly choir rehearsals from September to June, inclusive

• Showing strong leadership skills and communicating effectively in a team environment

• Ensuring proper care and maintenance of the church’s organ and pianos

Position start date: Early Fall 2025
