St. Thomas Anglican Church in Belleville, Ontario is searching for a Director of Music. St. Thomas’ has a rich musical heritage rooted in the Anglican tradition. We are open to new ideas and change. We are blessed with a 1977 Gabriel Kney Pipe organ in the gallery, as well as a high-quality Yamaha Digital Piano P-515, and a Viscount F1 Cantorum Trio with a midi pedalboard, in the rear of the Sanctuary.
We welcome applicants with the following: Interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability as an organist and choir director including recitals and concerts, open to a variety of musical styles, and strong leadership. You will work collaboratively with the rector and others involved in worship planning, being respectful of the diversity of the congregation. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the 2024 RCCO guidelines. We are very open to discussion and negotiation with respect to how this opportunity can be structured to meet your scheduling requirements, and our needs. We are flexible regarding hours, and highly encourage your personal concert career, (either nationally, or internationally) which we do not count as “time off”. Job Description: Director of Music
Required Skill Set
-Strong leadership and organizational skills

-Experience in choral direction -able to direct a four part choir
-An ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with others
Key Responsibilities
Working with the Rector and worship committee, the Director of Music is responsible for the development and
implementation of the music ministry and worship. The expectations are encompassed within 3 categories.
Preparation and Participation
Further develop and expand the music ministry at St. Thomas’ Church for all ages.
Though we expect a collaborative work environment among staff, you are primarily responsible for selecting and preparing the worship music, teaching it to the choir and/or musicians at weekly choir practice or special practices as required.
Select, prepare and provide music for preludes, interludes and postludes for worship services.
Provide accompaniment and direction for congregational hymns and choral anthems at the weekly Sunday service and special services.
In cooperation with those responsible, provide music for weddings, funerals or other occasions.
Communication
Participate in occasional meetings as required pertaining to music ministry.
Develop and maintain a positive and strong working relationship with the parish, choir, office staff, worship committee and Rector.
Be a liaison with the broader musical community.
Contribute and/or supply relevant information to be included on the parish website.
Organization
Assist with development and management of an annual music budget.
Oversee the music library with the assistance of volunteers
Oversee the care and maintenance of the keyboards, piano and organs.
